RISE UP
by Ellen Gennaro
Post apocalypse they came
filled with sorrow wrapped in shame,
Never thought the world would end this way
I saw terror in their eyes
when they heard the sirens cry,
As hell rained from the skies that mournful day
They’d been hypnotized by lies they believed the alibis
They were taken by surprise and blown away
I woke up from this nightmare
with the sunlight on my face
My dream a fading memory
left a warning in its place
Frightened boys with deadly toys
want kingdoms of their own
Blinded by ambition
they’ll destroy our sacred home
Post apocalypse they came
filled with sorrow wrapped in shame
Our story doesn’t have to end this way
I will not surrender power
to the fools in gilded towers
When they promise to bring back the glory days
Every mountain’s gonna shake
every dam is gonna break
Let’s climb to higher ground before doomsday
The Emperor stands naked
in the clothes he has put on
Dorothy wears magic shoes
the Wizard is a con
Shepherds finally recognize
the wolves in sheep’s disguise
Trojan gates stand closed
before the horse left as a prize
Post apocalypse they came
filled with sorrow wrapped in shame
I won’t back off or look the other way
Everyone has got a choice
everyone has got a voice
Brothers Sisters Come Rise Up and have our say
Now’s the time to take a stand
joined together hand in hand
Brothers Sisters Come Rise Up and Light the way
Rise Up Rise Up Rise Up and Light the way
Rise Up Rise Up Rise Up and Light the way
