WORKING TO SURVIVE
by Josh Dutoit and Ellen Gennaro
Up at four exhausted, kiss the kids goodbye
Out the door in darkness, on the road by five
Passing semis headlights blind my eyes
God I hate this working to survive
Jimmy wakes up cranky, doesn’t much like school
Cindy’s good at shortcuts, and breaking Daddy’s rules
Rush to get home before the kids arrive
God I hate this working to survive
I’m so sick of working every day
Wishing things were different doesn’t pay
Gotta keep on working
When will we stop working
I’m so tired of working to survive
Workman’s comp is ending, pays half the grocery bills
Frankie’s waiting tables, for tips at Rocco’s Grill
We try to keep the spark alive
Seems we’re always working to survive
I’m so sick of working every day
Wishing things were different doesn’t pay
Gotta keep on working
When will we stop working
I’m so tired of working to survive
Gotta keep on working
When will we stop working
I’m so tired of working to survive
